How you can help

We are very proud of our parent support who play a central role in organising events and fundraising initiatives.  If you would like to get involved, there are a number of ways in which you can help support our club.

Why do we need volunteers?  Every swimming club requires lots of volunteers:

• To run the day to day operations of our Club and Region
• To sit on Regional and National Swim Ireland committees and the Swim Ireland Board
• For all levels of competitions – club, regional, national and international.

We are always on the lookout for suitable volunteers to carry out the following duties:

• Squad / Team Reps
• Volunteer Co-ordinator
• Team Managers
• Officials at competitions
• Joining sub-committees (e.g. SWML committee, disciplinary committee, etc.)

If you are interested in helping out in any way at all, please email the Club Secretary.  Whatever role you decide to take on, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated! 

We won’t ask anyone to do any more than they are able to do.  If the role requires it (e.g. team managers, gala officials), we will help organise appropriate training.  We will ensure that those volunteering are supported to be the best they can be, after all it is people who make clubs fun places.  We will also attempt to ensure that existing club leaders are supported and future leaders are identified.

Succession Planning

Succession planning is about looking at where County Sligo Swimming Club has come from, where it is now, where it needs to go and what our club can do to get it there.  

Ultimately, succession planning should help us achieve the club’s objectives over the next 5, 10 or 15 years by ensuring that we have the right volunteers with the right skills in the right positions at the right time.  We wish to put a system in place to ensure that when someone leaves (such as a gala secretary or treasurer) the club is not left with a black hole of knowledge and expertise.  Succession Planning is not just about replacing the missing volunteer, it is about:

• Knowing what skills or expertise are needed to fill key roles within the club, now and in the future
• Making sure that others within the club possess these skills and knowledge so there is someone to fill the void if that key member has to retire
• Identifying, recruiting, retaining, valuing, developing and preparing volunteers so that the club has a depth of knowledge and a pool of ready and able volunteers.

In doing this, we hope to ensure that transitions are smooth as people come and go and the Club can continue to meet our development objectives into the future.
